Aperitivo is Italy’s version of happy hour.
It is a cultural phrase and time of day that captures the celebration of life around pre-dinner drinks, snacks and conversation.
Raffaela Ceddia, chief eating officer at Flavourhood Tours, describes her Aperitivo Tour as learning about what you can expect to eat and drink and how the tradition began.
“You’ll learn all this and more while sipping on the most delicious Italian cocktails, prosecco and wines and tasting Lygon St’s best arancini, cicchetti, pizza, pasta, gelato, salumi and cheese,” Raffaela said.
Carlton Inc executive officer Phil Mansour said, “we are supporting the weekly tours to bring people into Carlton and enjoy some of the fine venues and experiences Carlton has to offer.”
“The tour is a good outing if [local residents] want to bring friends and family from other areas of Melbourne,” he said.
The tour attracts singles, couples and groups of friends who want to experience new places and new dishes while learning about the cultural insights and background of Lygon St.
During the two-hour tour, guests will visit some of Carlton’s most cherished venues, tasting their most delicious wares while sipping on a spritz, wine or cocktail.
Included in the ticket price of $89 per person are five delicious food and drink stops along Lygon St to indulge in a wide variety of Italian cuisine matched with choice Italian alcoholic beverages in the company of an expert Italian-culture guide.
Ms Ceddia said, with a maximum of 10 people, each tour is designed to enjoy time with your friends, meet new friends and let the guide take care of organising dinner and good times.
“Guests are encouraged to try new dishes, drinks, and restaurants or rediscover old favourites and hear stories behind the places and faces of the iconic neighbourhood of Carlton,” she said.
The next season of weekly tours begins on Friday, June 17, and runs until Friday, November 25.
